May 15, 2008 - Man Killed in Violent Louisiana Thunderstorms

Severe storms hit Louisiana, producing heavy rain, intense winds, and tornadoes and leaving at least one person dead. A tree fell on top of a camper, killing the 77-year-old mine inside, near Grosse Tete, Louisiana.

Another minor injury was reported in the nearby town of St. Martin Parish. "From the first reports we believe it was a tornado that went through during the storm," said an official from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Department.

Record rainfall began late Tuesday. The Shreveport, Louisiana, area is reported to have received over 10 inches of rainfall, flooding nearly 125 homes. Golf ball-sized hail was also reported.

An estimated 12,000 Louisiana residents were left without power Thursday morning.
